With a poetic and magical use of language, Gabriel García Márquez reconstructs the history of suffering of southern America's people without being boring at all. You can even read the book without acknowledging those historical facts, and finding it just a funny and sometimes crazy story about the strange people and happenings of Macondo. Magical realism brings you a strange feeling, for when things are apparently flowing in the most normal way, something very unusual, as talking to the dead, raining for more than five years, happens. It's not the easiest book to read, mostly because time is not exactly linear during the narrative, and most characters throughout six generations are called Aureliano or José Arcadio, which can be confusing, but it's still worth it.

One Hundred Years of Solitude - Garcia Marquez
Recomendo
As a matter of fact I wish I could have read this book in Portuguese, but I didn’t find it on the Amazon. It was one of the most impressing books I have ever read. It’s a book, at the same time, about nothing and about everything. One feels life flowing like a stream through it, the sameness of life going and repeating itself through the time that seems senseless. I laughed, I cried, I stopped to meditate; I thought it wonderful how someone can weave such a plot. Garcia Marquez was really a genius! I’m ashamed I hadn’t read it before.
